Vassal will not run on a laptop

I have two computers – a Samsung R730 laptop, 3 GB RAM, Windows 7 (32 bit) and an Acer X1935 desktop, 6 GB RAM, Windows 7 (64 bit). Vassal has been downloaded separately to each.

The Acer runs the program but Vassal will not run on the laptop. The icon is on the desktop, the ‘busy’ wheel spins for a few seconds but nothing happens. Right-clicking on the icon to try and open the file has the same effect, as does trying to start it from the Program Files folder.

AVG antivirus was temporarily disabled – no change.

Any suggestions, please, about running the program on the laptop?

I forgot to add that this happens with Vassal 3.2.7 and 3.2.8
