I need to add som e graphics to my module, what program opens a module? I can’t seem to do it with my WinZip 9.0.
A module is just a standard Zip file. Any Zip utility should be able to open it. You may need to rename it with a .zip suffix before opening.

I noticed that a module created by me did not show as being a VASSAL file… i.e., the created module did not have the correct “extension”. I noticed that the file Tim fixed for me had a “.vmod” extension and when showing files in detail indicated it was a VASSAL file… hmmm.
SO, I manually add the extension to my newly created module, and voila, I can open it using my zip program. I remove a few extra map files that I did not need in there (they were test maps), and add some graphics. Close the zip file.
Then fire up VASSAL and open the module. I go to my At Start STack item - Basic unit and try to change the graphics to one of the newly added files, but VASSAL does not recognize the file? Hmmm. Now I am totally lost. As I can open the VASSAL module file in WinZip, remove and/or add items, but within VASSAL it does not see the new items.
What am I doing wrong here?
Where did you put the new graphics files? They must go into the ‘images’ folder. There should be no problem with what you are doing, I do it all the time without problems.

Ahhh, there lies the issue.
It appears to be a WinZip program problem. I’m using Version 9, (the new version is 12).
In WinZip, the “classic view” mode does not recognize or see the “images” folder. The other view mode does see it but even when you move files into the images folder for some reason VASSAL does not recognize it. It allows me to remove files (and recognizes that) but adding files of new graphics did not see it once I fired up VASSAL. Strange but true.
Finally I d/l a demo version of WinRAR, and it see the images folder correctly and let me place files into it. It lets me use the program for 40 days. Works for now.
Thus spake “geozero”:
Modules are ZIP files. It should be possible to open it with WinZip.

Thus spake “geozero”:
With 3.1, we’re moving to use .vmod as the standard extension for modules.
The reason for this is that .mod is registered by default to an audio file
format on many computers. (Note to self: We should register .vmod, .vsav,
.vlog with IANA so that we don’t end up with a name collision again.)
Refusing to open files based on their names is bad behavior for a zip
program. You should report that as a bug to your zip program’s developers.
Where in the module did you put the new graphics? In the ‘images’ directory?
What do you mean by “VASSAL does not recognize the file”?

I like 7-Zip (7-zip.org/). It’s open-soruce and free, and
has no problem with writing correct zip files.
