Why is the Roma mod an mpeg file?

Tried to download the Roma mod. It’s an MPEG file and tries to open with quicktime. What is the point?

Thus spake “Shatnershairpiece”:

It’s definitely not an MPEG. Did you try saving the file and opening it
with VASSAL?

Look at a post in technical support and bugs forum re mods downloading as movie files. Do a search on Movie to find the post.

Try to rename as Roma.vmod

When I click the Roma link on main module page, it takes me to the page where it says ‘roma game’. I then click the ‘files’ tab to get to the file. When I right click and try to save it, the name of the mod is roma.mpeg. I’ve never seen this before. I’ve got about six mods saved as zip files from Vassal and I’ve never had one that came up as an mpeg file, or that opened in quicktime. You’re saying I should rename the file? To what? roma.zip? Isn’t a zip file the only extension that Vassal can open?

The name of the file isn’t roma.mpeg, it’s roma.mod. The web server is
lieing about the file type (which it shouldn’t), which is causing your
browser to change the extension (which it also shouldn’t).

(Side note to devs / web-maintainers - can the web server be fixed to
always serve .mod as application/octect-stream, in the absence of a
registered VASSAL mime-type? )

Just rename it roma.mod and open it. Everything will work.

That’s what I did. I renamed it and it opened. If anyone wants a game, let me know.
