Connection Problems

I appear to have been disconnected and can’t reconnect from my home connection. I can connect fine from another connection. Is there any server issue?

If an admin reads this please help. I was in the middle of a game too :frowning:.

There’s no known problem with the server at present. Your problem is
something else.

J.

Is there any way to find out what the problem could be? The rest of my internet works fine. Any troubleshooting steps I could follow?

Thanks

I checked the DNS of vassalengine.org, and it connects both to 68.14.242.202, the connection that works and the one that doesn’t.

Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean. What is “it” here?

J.

Sorry, I will elaborate. I was playing in VASSAL, when suddenly I lost the connection. Both the VASSAL client and the vassalengine.org website don’t work anymore. All my internet works, except your server, like it’s blocked. I think it happened yesterday too, for a short time, and then came back in a few minutes. But now it’s not coming back. I thought it was a general outage perhaps, with the server move, but it (vassalengine.org) is working on the connection from which I am typing this now (remote connection on another computer). When I ping your IP it comes back instantly with a timeout.

Thanks for any help
:frowning:

Would it be of any help if I PM you my problem IP?

I called someone else on my same ISP, and they can’t connect either. Should I contact my ISP?

I am in Hamilton Ontario, and can ping vassalengine.org (converting to
68.14.242.202) just fine.

Yes, I can ping the IP from where I am typing this, a remote connection to a different ISP.

But from my home ISP it won’t.

It’s some problem that your ISP is having, then.

J.

Perhaps your home ISP is blocking the vassalengine.org IP for some reason.

I will call my ISP now and report back!

After a long call with the technical department of my ISP they haven’t found yet where the problem lies. They can connect, but their customers can’t. I did a traceroute, and the last place it gets to before bogging down is:
cox-communications-gw.ip4.tinet.net (77.67.79.234)
After a whois on vassalengine.org I do believe Cox Communications is the VASSAL server host. So maybe they decided to block my ISP. Anyway, I’ll get a call back later from my ISP. Hopefully they can find the fault. I will then report back when I know more.

Edit: maybe Cox Communications is only the domain registrar, not the server host.

Yes, Cox is our host’s ISP.

J.

Yikes! For a minute I was thinking Cox was Comcast with their stupid content throttling

It’s working again! 8)

Haven’t had a call back from my ISP yet. Don’t know if they had anything to do with it. Let’s hope it’s a permanent fix.

Thanks for the help.
