ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR when downloading modules

@skippen I suspected it would. What would be best is if you’d still call Comcast to complain, as that might help get the problem resolved for everyone.

What result do you get when you have “Advanced Security” on and you follow this link? https://obj.vassalengine.org/images/thumb/c/c6/1776bc.jpg/87px-1776bc.jpg

Does it load without a problem? Do you get the same error as before? Something else?

I have the same problem with Microsoft Edge. However it works with Firefox. I have Cox as my internet provider. I checked my app and the Advanced Security is not even activated.

@cbelva What does the link in this post above this one do when you try that?

Who/where would I complain? I tried another page this morning, and it is back. Looks like I will have to allow it for every page potentially or it is a temporary allow.

Comcast’s Xfinity tech support. (Possibly also shouting at them on Twitter. That seems to get companies attention these days. E.g.: https://twitter.com/heyhey/status/1430911146643632130)

But first, please try this link and let me know if that produces the error for you.

Will do, but it will be very late tonight or tomorrow night as tonight is my game night.

I see same issue described above using xfinity and edge and firefox.

Would you try the link I’ve asked people to try and report back?

I see small image of 1776 cover.

And you do not get the same error message as for this other link?

Thank you for confirming.

It looks like we can work around Comcast’s problem by directing traffic to our object storage bucket with a CNAME and using a certificate of our own. I will see about doing this later today, as it’s something I already had on my TODO list.

Nice! I only bumped into this issue this morning, better service than Comcast for sure.

I’ve now switched over to using a CNAME and our own SSL certificate for our object storage bucket. If the problem persists, I’ll need more information about what errors you’re seeing.

Download successful. One needs to refresh browser window before downloading.

I had a LONG discussion with Comcast tech support last evening. Eventually the support system said the issue had to do with network clusters or something like that, and he had initiated a fix. Downloading modules still didn’t work for me as of this morning, but I just tried again and was SUCCESSFUL! He claimed the problem should now be fixed for all comcast customers, so hopefully that is true now.

Yes, this kind of problem is always due to a network cluster.

Thank you for complaining to Comcast. Complaints from actual customers are sometime what it takes to move an ISP to action.
