Formula De 2.1 & 3.0 Download Problem

Using Vassal 3.6.3 neither Formula De 2.1 nor 3.0 will load completely. The Hockenheim track will load but have no graphics the other track has track graphics, but car setup graphics are blank when clicked on. V3.0 is the same. The window tracking the download never moves beyond 0 in 2.1 and 6% in 3.0. I haven’t tried to download the extensions. This is a new PC but I don’t believe that should matter as other modules for my saved games have downloaded just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also do the extensions work with 3.0? I know they did with 2.1 because I had them on other machine.

Clear your tile cache (in the Module Manager: Tools > Clear Tile Cahce) and try opening the module in a current development build:

https://vassalengine.org/builds/

E.g, try VASSAL-3.6.4-SNAPSHOT-2a3f304-master, or a more recent master build if there is one.

Does that solve the problem for you?

(BTW, I believe I emailed you this same thing about your bug report from yesterday.)

Hello Joel,
Thank you for the help. I just saw the email. Where do I find the Module Manager? I’m not well beyond the really obvious in tech things lol

The Module Manager is the window which opens when you start Vassal.

Found it. Nothing’s changed on my end. Left click on module, click tools, click clear tile cache, load module. Colonial Twilight and 7Ages load with no noticeable issues.

Ok. I need to see the error log from a run where you’ve cleared the tile cache and loaded a module where the tiler got stuck.

Instructions for finding the error log are here.

I did find what you need I think, but I don’t know how to get it to you. If I use the Windows 10 approach, I get a No results found message from the search and when I do it from the Module Manager, I see the data but I don’t know how to get it to you. Clicking right/left nor copying works. Sorry for being a putz

Can you select the error log text from the Module Manager and copy it using Ctrl+C, and then paste it here?

I cannot, I can move the window around or expand/contract but that’s it.

Did you try going to the indicated directory in the file manager? (The directory might be hidden by default, so you might need to tick the box for displaying hidden files.)

Are certain you can’t copy from the error log window? I tried just now in my Win 10 VM and I was able to select all the text with the mouse and copy it with Ctrl+C.

Sorry to say I don’t where that is. We may have to move on until I find someone more tech literate than me. I’m to watch a movie with the Mrs. tonight (Quadrophenia) and that time is upon me. Thank you again Joel for your help and patience.

If all else fails, you can take a screenshot of the error log window, but in that case you may need to scroll down and take several screenshots to get it all.

But I am fairly sure you should be able to select, copy, and paste the text from the dialog. That’s worth trying again.

I can highlight the text but right click nor Control + C will copy. Highlight or Control + C works on other text unrelated to that window.

My experience is that right-click will not work in this window, and Ctrl+C may give you no visual indication that anything has happened, but the copy does in fact occur–if you paste it somewhere (e.g., a blank Notepad document) you’ll find that it has indeed worked.

That works! I hope this is what you need,

You’re having a permissions problem. The simplest way to deal with this will be to delete everything in C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\VASSAL\tiles.

Does it work after you do that?

@MikeZiegler this might help, since you mentioned earlier you couldn’t find the error log by navigating your files: Show Hidden Files/Folders in Windows

By default you likely will not see an AppData folder in your home folder until you do the above.

That worked!
The other problem is I can’t load these track extensions FD2 Circuits 1 and FD2 Circuits 2 at BGGames01, and maybe this is something you can’t help with. When I first loaded these extensions on the other PC it was no problem at all.

How are you trying to load the extensions? Are there any error messages?
