I thought I should make a quick post for designers that could save some time. It took me a while before I really discovered the superiority of the “Reference Manual” compared to the “Designer’s Guide”. If you aren’t aware, they are both in the “doc” folder of each Vassal release. My experience has been that the “Reference Manual” is always more current. I believe the “Reference Manual” is built into the code-base and maintained along with it. But, I still sometimes use the “Designer’s Guide” to learn what keywords to use when searching the “Reference Manual”. See my next post “Searching the Reference Manual” for a great way to do this.
