I just noticed an odd aspect of the Area of Effect trait. My map hexes are flat on top and pointy on the sides. But the Area of Effect shading is pointy on top and flat on the sides. Is there a way to change the way the hexes are chosen for AoE? The attached image shows black hexes at the tactical map level and yellow hexes for the operational map level. I’d like to make the shape of the AoE match the shape of the OpMap hexes. That means rotating the AoE by 60 degrees.
Thanks!
Thom
If I understand you correctly, what you ask is impossible. The set of hexes within N hexes of a central hex (i.e. - an AoE) will always form the shape of a hexagon which is rotated 60 degrees from the orientation of the central hex.
Try sketching out what you ask for; you’ll see what I mean.
The rotation is actually 30 degrees.
Can the Operational Map be redefined to have its hex grid rotated 30 degrees? If so, its hexes would then be aligned with the AoE on the Tactical map.
Hmmm… that makes sense. Thanks. The players were expecting the AoE to be shaped like the starting hex and increase in size for each size increment. But that wouldn’t line up with the map hexes.
