I am just starting to try making a small module. Basically all I need is dragable pieces and a board no frills.
I tried to add a piece so I right clicked on pieces and chose “add single piece” I gave it the delete trait and chose the graphic file and name. However when I click on the pieces button in module it does not show my piece.
If I can figure out what I am missing my planned module will be a lot easier as adding pieces is most of what I want, Please help.
I will have to keep trying things though… It actually doesn’t even bring up the window that the pieces would be in, the button doesn’t seem to do anything.
Also I was wondering if why when I saved it the file type was just “file” instead of a .mod like the other modules I downloaded.
When I do what you said you did in VASSAL 3.1.0-beta3, the piece pallete
opens with the divider all the way to the left. You can’t see any of the
pieces in it until you drag the divider rightward. (I’m not sure why it’s
this way. It should be fixed.)
Did you name it “file” or “file.mod”? If you named it “file”, it will
be called that. At present, VASSAL doesn’t add an extension for you.
Try clicking on the Game Piece Palette and add a Panel first, then add a Single Piece to the panel. You will usually need to have a Tab/Drop-down/Panel/Scollable List as the first item added to the Pallette, unless there really is only one type of piece in your game.
And yes the piece area thing needs to be pulled out.
I Tried using a drop down list and I could select my piece but couldn’t drag it out like I have seen in other modules, I also tried putting the piece into a panel but I don’t see anything but some white or gray space.
If it helps I think that my piece is there it just can’t be seen. I gave it the invisible trait and I can right click where it should be on the panel and choose invisible which means that it is there but can’t be seen. I did give it a png file to use as the graphic, is there something else I was supposed to do?
Version 3.0.17 is quite stable and no-one else reports similiar problems. It is hard to say exactly what you are doing wrong without looking at your module. Can you post a link to your module please?
I followed your instructions and I can’t replicate the problem. The piece
shows up in the piece palette for me, though I do have to drag the splitter
quite far to the right before I see it. (There appears to be a problem
with recalculating the size of the piece palette when adding a new piece.)
If you’re using an image editor with a reasonable feature set (e.g., the
GIMP) then you’d just cut out that color. Alternatively, you could do that
using ImageMagick for all of your pieces at once.
I found out that the reason my piece wasn’t showing was that it was too small, I don’t know why they have to be big because then they are too big anyone had this problem?
