Something strange on Vassal modules for Mac: no .vmod

Good morning all. Im running Macs (powerbook and Studio) with Tahoe. I’ve been a fairly active user of Vassal – not to the extent of many of you grognards, but I know my way around, or thought I did.

The last modules I’ve downloaded – Winter’s Victory (New England Simuations), Eylau (Sound of Drums) and Shock, Shot and Faith (Hexasim) did not include the usual .vmod files – instead, folders with various .vsav for the various scenarios (see screenshots).

Is there something additional I need to do to run these modules on a Mac? My apologies if this has been addressed and I’ve simply overlooked it. Do I need to run the Terminal command that some other posters have cited?

Best regards to all.

You are likely downloading the .vmod files with Safari, which will auto-decompress ZIP files. See here for how to disable that.

Thank you kindly, sir. That indeed solved the problem.

Great. BTW, there’s also The module I downloaded expanded into a bunch of files. I would love to update that with more information, but the post is not currently a wiki post.

@uckelman, could you make The module I downloaded expanded into a bunch of files into a wiki post so that it can be updated? Thanks.

Also, the post Mac OS2.6.5.1 Tahoe Unzipping vmod Files describes the same problem, so I guess we can expect this problem to come up again.

Christian

I’ve done it.

This isn’t a new problem—it’s been happening for at least a decade.
